In an exciting day of the Davis Cup, Spain achieved a spectacular comeback to secure their place in the semifinals, defeating the Czech Republic with a score of 2-1.
The duo formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez Portero became the key to the Spanish triumph, prevailing in the decisive doubles match against Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik.
The absence of Carlos Alcaraz, who withdrew from the team due to a hamstring injury, was not an impediment to Spain demonstrating its strength and determination.
Granollers and Martínez Portero shone on the court, securing the victory with a score of 7-6 (8), 7-6 (8) at the SuperTennis Arena. This triumph allows Spain to advance to the semifinals, a stage they hadn’t reached since their victory in 2019, when they won their sixth Davis Cup title.
Next Challenge: Germany
In the semi-finals, Spain will face Germany, the second-seeded team, who secured their place after defeating Argentina with a score of 2-1.
Germany’s path to the semifinals was not easy. Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz had to fight hard in the doubles match, overcoming Andrés Molteni and Horacio Zeballos in a third-set tiebreak.
In the other match, Tomas Martin Etcheverry put Argentina in the lead, but Alexander Zverev tied the series for Germany.
The Davis Cup, held in Bologna, Italy, continues to showcase the passion and high level of world tennis.
In the other semi-final, Italy, seeking their third consecutive title and the fourth overall, will face Belgium.
