Sinner Bests Gasquet at the French Open

World number one, Jannik Sinner, advanced to the third round of the French Open after defeating Richard Gasquet in a match that marked the retirement of the French tennis player.

Sinner won with partials of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4 in a match where the generational difference was evident. Gasquet, who announced his retirement after this Grand Slam, said goodbye to his professional career before his audience.

It’s obviously a very special place for me to play and against Richard. We played last year as well. It’s very tough, but I’m happy to be in the third round. I think we have a good relationship off the court. We are from different generations, but it’s his moment now. Congratulations on your career, you gave a lot to the fans. You played in a great era, and everyone will remember you.

Gasquet, 38, debuted at the French Open in 2002, when Sinner was still a child. Despite the crowd’s support, Sinner dominated the match.

The Italian quickly took the lead, winning the first set and leaving Gasquet with no options in the second. Although Gasquet tried to react in the third set, Sinner secured the victory by breaking his opponent’s serve and closing out the match.
