Sabalenka Unstoppable: Extends Winning Streak in Wuhan to 20 Matches

Wuhan, China – Aryna Sabalenka continues her winning streak in Wuhan, adding her twentieth consecutive victory after defeating eighth-seeded Elena Rybakina with a score of 6-3, 6-3. This victory secures her a place in the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament.

Sabalenka, the current US Open champion, had already won the Wuhan Open title in 2018, 2019 and last year, marking her return to the Chinese city with a new victory.

In the match, which lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes, the world number one managed to break Rybakina’s serve on three occasions, securing her place in the semifinals for the eleventh time this season. At the end of the match, Sabalenka thanked the audience with gestures of affection.

Coco Gauff, the third seed, also had an outstanding performance, advancing to her second consecutive semifinal after defeating Laura Siegemund with a score of 6-3, 6-0.

Gauff will face Iga Swiatek, number two in the ranking, or Jasmine Paolini in the next round, who played a later match.

Sabalenka will face Jessica Pegula, the sixth seed, in the semifinals, who previously needed three sets to win her seventh consecutive match. Pegula defeated Katerina Siniakova with partial scores of 2-6, 6-0, 6-3, after losing the first set.

Pegula reaches this instance after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova, number 9 in the ranking, and American Hailey Baptiste, in a match where she needed seven match points to secure the victory.
