Casper Ruud Withdraws from Wimbledon Due to Injury

Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud will not participate in Wimbledon because he is still recovering from a knee injury, according to his team, who informed local media this Saturday. The current world number 16 and two-time Roland Garros finalist suffered an unexpected elimination in the second round of the clay Grand Slam last month, losing to Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who was unseeded. After his defeat at Roland Garros, Ruud revealed that he had been dealing with knee problems for some time. Since then, he has not competed on the men’s circuit, including his withdrawal from the grass court tournament in Mallorca. He’s back on the court and things are going well, but it seems that playing best-of-five sets is, unfortunately, a bit early. Gstaad will be next for Casper. Ruud’s best performance at Wimbledon has been three second-round appearances. Wimbledon will begin on June 30, while the Swiss Open in Gstaad will start on July 14.
