Holger Rune Injured and Will Be Out of the Courts for a While
Danish tennis player Holger Rune, currently ranked number 11 in the world, announced that he will be away from the courts for an indefinite period due to an Achilles tendon injury that will require surgery. The news comes after his retirement in the semifinals of the Nordic Open in Stockholm. Rune retired from the match against Ugo Humbert on Saturday, visibly affected, when he was leading 6-4, 2-2. The injury, as explained by the player himself, is a complete rupture in the proximal part of the Achilles tendon.The tennis player shared his feelings through social media.Rune, 22 years old, has managed to reach the quarterfinals in three Grand Slam tournaments and reached number 4 in the world ranking.It’s going to be a while before I can step on the court again. It’s tough. I felt so much joy on the court in Stockholm and it’s unbearable to think that I won’t feel this energy for a while.
