Holger Rune Injured and Will Be Out of the Courts for a While
Danish tennis player Holger Rune, currently ranked number 11 in the world, announced that he will be away from the courts for an indefinite period due to an Achilles tendon injury that will require surgery. The injury occurred during the Nordic Open semi-final in Stockholm on Saturday. Rune had to retire from the match against Ugo Humbert while leading 6-4, 2-2, visibly affected by the pain.The 22-year-old tennis player explained that the Achilles tendon is “completely torn in the proximal part” and that he will be operated on next week. Rune has managed to reach the quarter-finals in three Grand Slam tournaments and reached the number 4 position in the world ranking.It’s going to be a while before I can step on the court again. It’s difficult. I felt a lot of joy on the court in Stockholm and it’s unbearable to think that I won’t feel this energy for a while.
