British tennis player Emma Raducanu has ended her season due to physical problems that affect her. Raducanu, who aimed to close out 2025 with a good performance to secure a favorable position in the Australian Open in January, now faces uncertainty regarding her participation. However, there is good news on the training front, as the 22-year-old and the experienced Spanish coach Francisco Roig have reached an agreement to continue their collaboration in 2026. Raducanu retired during the second set of her match against Ann Li in Wuhan last week, due to dizziness in hot and humid conditions. Subsequently, she posted a photo on social media from a doctor’s office. Although he claimed to feel better and decided to participate in the Ningbo Open this week, he was not 100% and lost his first match again.

Raducanu won the first set against Zhu Lin, but appeared fatigued in the second and had her blood pressure checked. In addition, she suffered a recurrence of problems in the lumbar area and could barely move at the end of the match. It was scheduled for him to play in the Japan Open next week in Tokyo and then in the Hong Kong Open, but he has chosen to focus on his recovery. The former US Open champion has been unwell for the last ten days and has decided not to push her body any further. Now he will take some time off the courts before meeting with Roig, who was Rafael Nadal’s coach and with whom he began working in August for a preseason training block. Raducanu’s season has had ups and downs, with difficulties on and off the court in the early months, including the resignation of her coach Nick Cavaday and an incident in which she felt disturbed during a match in Dubai. Despite having won only three matches before the Miami Open in mid-March, a temporary collaboration with Mark Petchey paid off immediately, reaching the quarterfinals of a WTA 1000. This gave way to a good spring and summer, with Raducanu winning matches consistently and reducing her ranking by almost half. However, the optimism surrounding her when she left New York with Roig and having won matches at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2021 has diminished.

Raducanu decided at the last minute not to represent Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and will have to rebuild bridges on that front. In addition, she only won two matches in four tournaments in Asia, losing by match points against Barbora Krejčíková and Jessica Pegula. Raducanu could have done enough to be seeded in Melbourne, which would increase her chances of avoiding the difficult draws she has faced in Grand Slams this season, and she has given herself a good platform to build on. Having entered this year’s Australian Open ranked 61st, Raducanu has climbed to 29th in the world, and most importantly, she has shown that her body can withstand a full season. If he manages to continue working with Roig, find stability in physical training and have a good preseason, there should be great hopes for a positive 2026.
