Jessica Pegula Wins Title in Bad Homburg, Defeating Iga Swiatek

American tennis player Jessica Pegula, the top seed, demonstrated her grass court prowess by defeating Iga Swiatek in the final of the Bad Homburg Open, with a score of 6-4, 7-5. Pegula controlled Swiatek’s topspin game, securing the victory and the title. Pegula held her serve impeccably, conceding only one break point to her opponent. With this victory, the American prevented Swiatek from obtaining her first grass court title, just two days before the start of Wimbledon. Swiatek, for her part, has not achieved an individual title since her victory at the 2024 French Open.

I know you say you can’t play on grass, but you’re very, very good on grass. It was a special week.

Pegula secured a crucial break in the first set, going up 5-3. The world number 3, seeking her third title of 2025 and the first since April, clinched the first set when Swiatek sent a forehand long. In the second set, Swiatek fought hard, getting close to a break point, but couldn’t convert it. It was Pegula who got a break point at 5-5, taking advantage of it with a powerful cross-court forehand. Pegula held her serve to secure her second grass court title, following her victory in Berlin last year. For Swiatek, who shed tears during the trophy presentation ceremony, it was a successful week as she reached her first grass-court final.

[Pegula] has an incredible game, and she showed it throughout the tournament. I hope we have many more finals together. I feel like she’s on the right track, and thanks for the opportunity to play here. This tournament shows that there is hope for me on grass.
