Pegula and Navarro propel the U.S. to the Billie Jean King Cup final

SHENZHEN, China – The United States team, led by Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro, secured their place in the Billie Jean King Cup final after defeating Great Britain with a score of 2-0.

In a demonstration of tenacity, both Pegula and Navarro came back in their respective singles matches. Pegula, currently ranked number 7, managed to defeat Katie Boulter with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. For her part, Navarro, number 18 in the world, defeated Sonay Kartal with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The final of the competition, formerly known as the Fed Cup, will pit the United States against the current champion, Italy.

The American Jessica Pegula reaches this instance after her outstanding performance in the semifinals of the US Open.

The United States, with an impressive history of 18 titles, will seek its first championship since 2017. The last time the American team reached the final was in 2018.

Italy, led by Jasmine Paolini (world number 8) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto (number 91), also presents a competitive team.

Both teams have strong doubles pairings. Italy has Olympic champions Paolini and Sara Errani, while the United States presents Pegula and Taylor Townsend, number one in the world in doubles.

The matches, best of three, consist of two singles matches and, if necessary, a decisive doubles match.
