Tennis player Naomi Osaka was forced to withdraw from the Japan Open on Friday due to a left leg injury, according to tournament organizers. Osaka’s withdrawal, who was the top seed, occurred before her quarterfinal match.
This situation allowed Jaqueline Cristian to advance directly to the semifinals of the tournament. The tournament organizers indicated that Osaka had not recovered from the injury suffered during her second-round match. Before her injury, Osaka achieved victories over Wakana Sonobe and Suzan Lamens. During the match against Lamens, Osaka suffered the injury in her left leg at a crucial moment in the third set. Despite the limitations in her movement, she managed to close the match. In another quarterfinal match, Leylah Fernandez defeated Rebecca Šramková.
