Naomi Osaka Withdraws from Japan Open Due to Injury

Tennis player Naomi Osaka was forced to withdraw from the Japan Open tournament on Friday due to a left leg injury, according to event organizers.

Osaka’s withdrawal, who was the top seed, occurred before her quarterfinal match, allowing Jaqueline Cristian to advance directly to the semifinals.

The tournament organizers indicated that Osaka had not recovered from the injury suffered during her second-round match.

Before the injury, Osaka achieved victories over Wakana Sonobe and Suzan Lamens. In the match against Lamens, Osaka was leading 5-0 in the third set after splitting the first two sets. However, during an exchange, Osaka suffered an apparent injury to her left leg.

Despite the limitations in her movement, Osaka was able to close out the match on her third match point. It should be noted that Osaka had already been eliminated in the second round of the China Open and the Wuhan Open.

In another quarterfinal match of the Japan Open, Leylah Fernandez defeated Rebecca Šramková with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-3.
