Petra Kvitova Receives Wild Card for Wimbledon

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has been granted a wild card to participate in the women’s singles draw, organizers announced on Wednesday.

The Czech tennis player, who won the title at the All England Club in 2011 and 2014, began her return to competition in February, after a 17-month break due to her maternity leave.

At 35 years old, and having reached number 2 in the world, Kvitova currently holds the 572nd position in the WTA ranking.

Recently, she lost in the first round of a WTA 500 grass court event at the Queen’s Club earlier this month.

Kvitova was the only non-British player on the initial wild card list, which also includes former British number 1, Dan Evans.
