Krejcikova Wins in Eastbourne After Saving Match Points

The current Wimbledon champion, Barbora Krejcikova, demonstrated her tenacity by reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 event in Eastbourne, England, after overcoming her British opponent, saving match points for the second consecutive day. The 29-year-old Czech tennis player faced significant challenges, including a thigh injury, and was on the verge of elimination against Jodie Burrage. At a critical moment, with the score at 5-6 in the decisive set and 0-40 against her, Krejcikova managed to turn the situation around to secure the victory with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (3). Krejcikova, who was crowned at Wimbledon last year after defeating Jasmine Paolini, initially led with a set and a service break. However, she needed medical attention on her leg. Burrage, ranked 164th in the world, reacted strongly, managing to break Krejcikova’s serve to tie the match. A key point was awarded to Burrage after a forehand from her opponent went through a hole in the net. The 26-year-old British player maintained a slight advantage in the final set, but couldn’t convert any of the three match points she had in her favor. A double fault in the tiebreak gave Krejcikova the opportunity to seal the victory, something she didn’t miss. Krejcikova, who also saved match points on Tuesday against Harriet Dart, has achieved two consecutive singles victories, something she hadn’t managed in 2025, a year marked by injuries.

“Another difficult match,” Krejcikova commented on the court, adding: “The British know how to play on grass and it’s complicated to face them, but I’m glad to have advanced.”

“I was going through a difficult time earlier this year, but I’m happy to be here and to keep finding the level I know I can reach,” he concluded.
