Jeline Vandromme and Ivan Ivanov win the US Open junior titles

New York – Jeline Vandromme and Ivan Ivanov added new trophies to their showcases this Saturday, by conquering the individual titles of the US Open junior in straight sets. Vandromme defeated Swedish tennis player Lea Nilsson with scores of 7-6 (2), 6-2 in the women’s final. The Belgian player came back from a difficult start and overcame a tie break to take the first set, before securing the second with authority.

“I still can’t believe what happened,” Vandromme declared on the court after her victory. “I am very happy with my week here, with the level I showed.”

The Belgian tennis player had an outstanding performance in New York, defeating number 2, Hannah Klugman, and number 3, Kristina Penickova, on her way to the final. In the men’s branch, the reigning Wimbledon junior champion, Ivanov, added another Grand Slam title to his growing record. The number 1 seed defeated his compatriot Alexander Vasilev by 7-5, 6-3, in a completely Bulgarian duel held before a crowd waving numerous Bulgarian flags.

“Bulgarian final and Bulgarian public,” Ivanov commented with a smile. “I am very happy that this has happened, and I am very glad that I was successful today.”

In the doubles modality, sisters Alena and Jana Kovackova took the victory over Vandromme and her partner Laima Vladson, while Keaton Hance and Jack Kennedy obtained the men’s title by defeating Noah Johnston and Benjamin Willwerth in an all-American final.
