Hubert Hurkacz Withdraws from Wimbledon Due to Injury

The Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz will miss Wimbledon after not recovering from surgery, as announced by the player himself this Friday. Hurkacz, who reached number 6 in the world, has not competed since he withdrew from the Libema Open earlier this month due to a lower back injury. In that tournament, and being the fifth seed, he had to request two medical timeouts in his first-round victory before abandoning the match. Last year, Hurkacz also underwent meniscus surgery on his right knee after retiring from his second-round match at Wimbledon, where he was the seventh seed. This injury prevented him from participating in the Olympic Games.

Together with my team, I have made the decision to withdraw from Wimbledon this year.

Hurkacz explained that during his preparation, his body reacted with an irritation of the synovial membrane, part of the recovery process from his surgery. “He needs rest and treatment, and I need to listen to my body,” added the tennis player. The Wimbledon draw took place on Friday. Hurkacz was scheduled to face Briton Billy Harris in the first round of the grass-court Grand Slam, which begins next Monday.
