In her message, Haddad Maia expressed:

“I am ending my 2025 season a little earlier than planned so I can rest my body and mind for a longer period. Make sure I will come back stronger and the best is yet to come.”

Haddad Maia’s decision comes after experiencing recent physical difficulties. During a WTA tournament in Seoul last week, the 29-year-old athlete had breathing problems and tremors in her hands while resting between games. Despite these complications, and after having her blood pressure checked by a physiotherapist, the tennis player continued competing. Haddad Maia, who was defending the title in Seoul, managed to win her first-round match, but was eliminated in the round of sixteen against Ella Seidel. The Brazilian led the third set 5-2 and had a match point, but ultimately lost the last five consecutive games. In the 2025 season so far, the former top 10 has accumulated 26 losses in 42 matches played.
