Granollers and Zeballos Conquer the US Open in an Epic Duel

In a match filled with excitement and unexpected twists, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos were crowned champions of the US Open in men’s doubles. The Spanish-Argentine duo defeated Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in a match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Granollers, with a powerful shot, managed to break Skupski’s serve, unleashing the euphoria of Carlos Alcaraz, who was celebrating from the stands. The road to victory was not easy. Granollers and Zeballos were one point away from defeat, but they managed to come back and secure their second Grand Slam title of the season.

Tennis is sometimes crazy, because we were talking about how close we were to losing the match, and in 20 minutes you win the trophy.

Marcel Granollers
The duo, who had already triumphed at the French Open, demonstrated their dominance on the court, taking the title and a prize of one million dollars. The match was marked by tension, with the British Salisbury and Skupski having three match points in the third set. However, Granollers and Zeballos reacted impressively, winning eight consecutive points and achieving a crucial break. Granollers revealed that Alcaraz, his compatriot, was watching the match from the gym and celebrated the victory with them. Salisbury, who was seeking his fourth US Open doubles title, and Skupski, who became regular partners this year, were unable to capitalize on their opportunities in what was their fifth final of the year.

We will keep working hard and these finals will come one day.

Neal Skupski
The final, defined by a narrow margin of total points (98-97 in favor of the winners), meant the third victory of Granollers and Zeballos over Salisbury and Skupski in a Grand Slam this year, including a match in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

Granollers and Zeballos, who teamed up in 2019 and reached the US Open final that same year, finally achieved their long-awaited title. After reaching the Wimbledon final in 2021 and 2023, this year they managed to break the barrier and conquer the title in Paris. Granollers, who described the tournament at Flushing Meadows as two of the toughest weeks of his career due to physical problems, and Zeballos became the first men’s team to win multiple Grand Slam titles in a year since Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah in 2019.

Of course, this is an incredible feeling, especially because in 2019 we got here and lost the final. We were very close. I think we learned a lot from that final to try to strive harder for this one.
