Former world number 7 David Goffin showed his quality by recovering from a tight tiebreak in the first set to dominate Alexandre Müller at the Shanghai Masters. Goffin prevailed with scores of 6-7 (6), 6-1 and 6-1, securing his place in the next round. At 34 years old, Goffin has an impressive record, including four Grand Slam quarter-finals and six ATP titles. In addition, he reached the final of a Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. The seeded players in Shanghai received byes in the first round. Therefore, tennis players like Jannik Sinner, recent champion of the China Open in Beijing, and Novak Djokovic, will not play their opening second-round matches until Friday. Djokovic, seeded as number four and with 38 years old, is a four-time champion in Shanghai. This will be his first participation since his defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semifinals.
