Coco Gauff Crowned Wuhan Open Champion After Defeating Jessica Pegula

In an all-American final, Coco Gauff won the Wuhan Open title after defeating Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-4, 7-5. Gauff demonstrated her dominance on the court, securing her second title of the year. Gauff, currently ranked number 3 in the world, achieved her eleventh title of her professional career. The tennis player expressed her satisfaction with the performance shown during the tournament.

Winning every match in straight sets, I don’t know if I’ve done that before in a title run. I feel very proud of what I achieved this week, regardless of today’s result.

The match was decided in a second set where Gauff, after saving a crucial point with a score of 5-3 against her, managed to come back and take the victory. Pegula, who had previously defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, could not maintain the momentum in the final. This was the seventh match between Gauff and Pegula, with a 4-3 head-to-head record in favor of Pegula. The Wuhan Open final marked the first encounter between both players in a singles final.

We’ve spent a lot of time together and, although I’m a bit older, I always admire and respect her very much. She’s very mature for her age.
