Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open
Tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the title at the WTA Japan Open, after defeating young prospect Tereza Valentova in an exciting final. The match, played on Sunday, ended with a score of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3 in favor of Fernandez, marking her fifth title in her professional career.
Fernandez, who was participating in her eighth final, demonstrated her skill from the start, dominating the first set in just 29 minutes. However, Valentova, coming from the qualifying phase and only 18 years old, reacted in the second set, managing to tie the score by breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game. In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked number 27, achieved a crucial break in the fourth game. Despite the Czech player’s resistance, Fernandez remained calm and secured her victory, thus adding her second title of the season, following her triumph at the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
