Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open

Tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the title at the WTA Japan Open, after defeating young Tereza Valentova in an exciting final. The match, played on Sunday, ended with a score of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3, marking the fifth title of Fernandez’s career.

Fernandez, who was participating in her eighth final, demonstrated her skill from the start, dominating the first set in just 29 minutes. However, Valentova, coming from the qualifying phase, reacted in the second set, managing to tie the score after breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game.

In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked number 27, achieved a crucial break in the fourth game. Despite the strong opposition from the Czech player, Fernandez remained calm and secured her victory.

This triumph represents the second title of the season for Fernandez, who previously was crowned champion at the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
