Djokovic draws inspiration from LeBron and Ronaldo to extend his career

Novak Djokovic, the tennis legend, has expressed his desire to continue his professional career until the age of 40, inspired by the longevity of figures like LeBron James and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Longevity is one of my biggest motivations. I really want to see how far I can go,” Djokovic stated at the Joy Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before participating in the Six Kings Slam.

Djokovic mentioned LeBron James, who is still playing at 40, and Cristiano Ronaldo, as examples of athletes who motivate him to keep competing. He also highlighted Tom Brady, who played American football until he was 40. Despite not having won a Grand Slam title in the last two years, Djokovic, 38, is not considering retirement. His goal is to win a 25th Grand Slam title to break the record for most individual titles in tennis history. Djokovic has previously expressed mixed feelings about his future in the sport, but he has also stated his intention to participate in all four Grand Slams in 2026, which would extend his career at least until 2027. In addition to his ambition on the court, Djokovic also seeks to use his influence to improve tennis. Along with the PTPA, he is working to drive changes in the sport.

“I want to live to see, to live in the sense of continuing to play professionally, what’s coming for our sport, and I’m very excited about it,” Djokovic said.
