Djokovic Overcomes Physical Challenge at Shanghai Masters

Shanghai – Novak Djokovic demonstrated his tenacity by defeating Jaume Munar with scores of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in the Shanghai Masters, in a match marked by high temperatures and humidity. Despite the physical difficulties he faced, the Serbian tennis player managed to prevail and advance in the tournament. After losing the second set, Djokovic requested medical assistance. After a long exchange, the tennis player collapsed on the court and remained lying down for several seconds before being attended to by a trainer. He received medical treatment before the start of the third set. Djokovic, 38 years old, chose not to participate in the post-match interview, but shared his impressions on the social network X.

With this victory, Djokovic becomes the oldest player to reach the quarterfinals in an ATP Masters 1000 event, surpassing Roger Federer. Djokovic is seeking his 41st Masters title, which would extend his record. In his next match, he will face Zizou Bergs from Belgium. On the other hand, Holger Rune, tenth seed, also managed to advance after a tough match against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, defeating him with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3.
