Djokovic advances in the US Open despite a complicated start

In a new day of the US Open, Novak Djokovic demonstrated his ability to adapt and resilience by securing his place in the third round. The Serbian tennis player, although he showed a less dominant performance in the first stages of the match, managed to overcome the American Zachary Svajda. Djokovic, in his quest for a new title at Flushing Meadows, where he has triumphed on four occasions, defeated Svajda with partial scores of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1.

I really tried to enjoy the moment, especially when I won the first set. I was a little surprised. I was like, ‘Wow!’

This triumph marks the continuation of an impressive streak for Djokovic in the early rounds of the tournament, with a record of 36-0 in New York. When questioned about his physical condition after his return to competition, Djokovic admitted not feeling in his best shape, something that Svajda also noticed during the match. Djokovic, visibly frustrated at certain moments, explained that he is working on finding solutions and maintaining concentration on the court. The Serbian tennis player assured that he enjoys the competition, but not playing below his level, which drives him to demand more of himself. In the next round, Djokovic will face Cam Norrie, a British tennis player who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2022. In other results of the day, Jiri Lehecka defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry, while Tomas Machac overcame Joao Fonseca. Casper Ruud, for his part, was eliminated by Raphael Collignon. Other seeded players who fell on the day were Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Jakub Mensik.
