Italy Advances to Davis Cup Semifinals After Defeating Austria
In a dominant demonstration, Italy, the current two-time champion, secured its place in the Davis Cup semifinals by defeating Austria with a score of 2-0. The match took place this Wednesday, solidifying Italy’s position in the competition.
Flavio Cobolli was in charge of sealing the victory, overcoming Filip Misolic with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Cobolli closed the match with a winning serve after 65 minutes of play, unleashing joy among the home crowd.
The semi-final is scheduled for Friday, where Italy will face Belgium.
Previously, Matteo Berrettini contributed to the Italian triumph by defeating Jurij Rodionov with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (4). Berrettini overcame an unfavorable situation in the second set, where he was 5-2 down, to finally secure the victory.
Italy seeks its third consecutive title and the fourth overall in this competition. Jannik Sinner, who led the team in the 2023 and 2024 victories, decided not to participate in this edition of the Davis Cup.
The event in Bologna is the sixth edition of the renewed competition, where the champion is defined in a neutral venue.
In other matches, Spain will face the Czech Republic and Germany will play against Argentina in the quarterfinals.
