Matteo Berrettini Withdraws from French Open Due to Injury

Paris – Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini has announced his withdrawal from the French Open due to an unspecified injury. Tournament organizers confirmed that a “lucky loser” will take his place in the main draw.

The start of the Roland-Garros tournament is scheduled for Sunday, kicking off this clay-court Grand Slam.

Berrettini, currently ranked number 28 in the world rankings, retired in the third round of the Italian Open last week, during his match against Casper Ruud.

Previously, the player was forced to withdraw from his third-round match in Madrid, against Jack Draper, due to an abdominal injury.

The Italian tennis player, Wimbledon runner-up in 2021, has faced various physical problems since then.

In the previous year, Berrettini withdrew from the Australian Open on the eve of the tournament, due to a right foot injury.

Two years ago, he was also forced to withdraw from the Italian Open, on that occasion to recover from an abdominal muscle tear.

Berrettini, known for his powerful serve, also reached the US Open semifinals in 2019 and has 10 titles in his professional career.
