Spain has not won the tournament since 2019. Last year, Alcaraz also missed the Davis Cup due to physical problems. Spain was eliminated in the first round of the Final 8 in Malaga. Alcaraz had expressed his desire to win the Davis Cup, considering it a very important tournament. Spain would face the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals in Bologna, a team that has Top 20 players like Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik.
