Carlos Alcaraz Conquers the 2025 US Open: A New Dominance in Men’s Tennis

New York – Carlos Alcaraz celebrated his victory at the 2025 US Open with a wide smile and kneeling on the court. The Spaniard had just secured his sixth Grand Slam title, in front of a crowd of 24,000 spectators at Arthur Ashe Stadium. However, the real celebration would have to wait.

First of all, Alcaraz approached his opponent, Jannik Sinner, to congratulate him. Despite their rivalry on the court, both tennis players showed great friendship and mutual respect. They met at the net with smiles and praise, and left the court together, showing genuine admiration.

This match marked the third consecutive Grand Slam final between Alcaraz and Sinner, with ticket prices through the roof and the world number 1 at stake. In the end, Alcaraz took the victory with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The question that resonates is: will anyone else be able to win a major in the near future?
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have won the last eight Grand Slam titles together. Two years ago, this question might have sounded far-fetched. At the end of the 2023 season, Alcaraz had two Grand Slam titles and Sinner had reached his first semi-final. Both had great potential, but they were not considered favorites for every title. Novak Djokovic, on the other hand, had won three of the four Grand Slam titles that year.

“The two best players in the world”

Novak Djokovic
Djokovic acknowledged that it would be difficult to beat Alcaraz in the semi-finals and then face Sinner in the final. Sunday marked the first season since 2002 in which no member of the Big Three (Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal) reached a Grand Slam final. It is clear that a new era of dominance has begun. Alcaraz and Sinner have won the last eight majors, splitting the titles four each. In 2025, Alcaraz and Sinner faced each other in the last three Grand Slam finals. Alcaraz won the French Open, and Sinner won Wimbledon. Throughout the last eight majors, they have faced four other opponents in the finals: Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev (twice).
Other players have shown flashes of promise. In the seven Masters 1000 level events this year, Alcaraz has won three. Ben Shelton, 22, has won three titles in his career and reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam twice. He is currently ranked number 6. Joao Fonseca, a Brazilian teenager, is another name mentioned as a future contender. During the US Open, both players demonstrated impressive dominance. Before the final, both had won at least 95% of their service games. Alcaraz won 98% of his service games and Sinner won 42% of his return games. The final on Sunday marked only the second time in the Open Era that two men have won all Grand Slam titles in two seasons, joining Federer and Nadal in 2006 and 2007. The pair became the first men in the Open Era to play in three consecutive Grand Slam finals during the same calendar year. At this moment, while the pair is in a category of their own and are the clear favorites, it’s difficult to predict what will happen. Just as Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Juan Martin del Potro found a way to win on the most important stages in the era of Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal, there is also room for someone else in the current tennis ecosystem.
