Alcaraz and Sinner: The ATP Finals Final

Turin, Italy – Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, two of the most prominent figures in current tennis, are preparing to compete for a new title in a season full of epic clashes. This Sunday, the final of the ATP Finals will be the stage where these two titans of the sport will seek to add another trophy to their collection. In the semifinals, Alcaraz defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 6-2, 6-4, while Sinner, before his Italian audience, beat Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2. These results confirm the supremacy of both players, who have dominated the tennis scene during the year.

I hope there are at least three or four people cheering for me in the stands. It will be very difficult. I am very happy to see Jannik in another final. Every time we face each other in a final, we raise our level to the maximum.

Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz, already assured as number one in the world at the end of the year, will compete in his first final in this tournament that brings together the eight best players in the world. For his part, Sinner will seek his second consecutive title in Turin, where he has maintained an impressive performance. Sinner has maintained a streak of 18 consecutive sets won in the ATP Finals, since he lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final. Furthermore, he has extended his winning streak on indoor hard courts to 31 matches, demonstrating his dominance on this type of surface.

These are matches I look forward to. Also to see where my level really is, but at the same time it’s great to have this matchup before the off-season… Of course, I feel comfortable on an indoor hard court.

Jannik Sinner
The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner has been intense, with clashes in the finals of the last three Grand Slams. Alcaraz won the French Open, Sinner took Wimbledon, and Alcaraz prevailed at the US Open. This year, they have faced each other six times, including the final of the Rome Masters (won by Alcaraz) and the final of the Cincinnati Masters (won by Alcaraz after Sinner’s retirement). Alcaraz leads the head-to-head record with a 10-5 balance over Sinner. In his semi-final match, Alcaraz demonstrated his superiority from the start, recording 25 winning shots and committing half as many unforced errors as Auger-Aliassime. The Spaniard described his performance as the best of the tournament.

I am very happy with today’s level. I played very solid, very aggressive.

Carlos Alcaraz
For Alcaraz, this is his third participation in the Finals, although he withdrew in his first appearance in 2022 due to an injury. In 2023, he was eliminated in the group stage.

On the other side of the court, Sinner extended his unbeaten streak against De Minaur to 13-0. Sinner saved three break points in his first service game and then managed to break De Minaur’s serve to take a 6-5 lead, securing the first set. The second set was dominated by Sinner, who quickly went up 4-0.

I was happy with how I served and with how I reacted in the important moments.

Jannik Sinner
The first professional victory of Sinner over De Minaur was in the final of the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2019. Sinner has won 29 of the 31 sets played between them.
