Carlos Alcaraz Recovers ATP Ranking Number 1

Carlos Alcaraz has officially returned to the top of the ATP ranking, reclaiming the number 1 spot for the first time in two years. The Spanish tennis player displaced Jannik Sinner after defeating him in the US Open final.

When you achieve the goals you set at the beginning of the year, it’s incredible.

Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz, after winning his second title at Flushing Meadows and his sixth Grand Slam trophy, expressed his satisfaction. Alcaraz’s rise to number 1 was achieved thanks to his victory over Sinner with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sinner, who had held the top spot since June 2024, with a stay of 65 weeks, gave up his place. Alcaraz, who reached number 1 for the first time in September 2022 at the age of 19, being the youngest in ATP history to achieve it, had lost that position in September 2023. In the ranking, Alexander Zverev remained in third place, while Novak Djokovic, after losing in the semifinals, moved up three positions, going from number 7 to 4.

Amanda Anisimova and Aryna Sabalenka Shine in the WTA Ranking

In the women’s circuit, Amanda Anisimova moved up five positions, reaching her best ranking at number 4, after being runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka, securing her stay at number 1 after reaching the quarterfinals in New York, obtained her second consecutive title at the US Open by defeating Anisimova with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (3). The runner-up Anisimova, after her outstanding performance, achieved a significant rise from outside the top 350. Iga Swiatek remained at number 2, followed by Coco Gauff. Jessica Pegula dropped from number 4 to 7, after her defeat in the semifinals. Naomi Osaka, after reaching her first Grand Slam semi-final since the 2021 Australian Open, rose from 24th to 14th place. The four-time Grand Slam champion had not been in the top 20 since January 2022.
