Wrexham, the sensation team, ignored in the PFA awards

Wrexham, known for its meteoric rise and recent success, has been surprisingly overlooked in the nominations for the PFA League One Team of the Year 2025. The team led by Phil Parkinson achieved a historic milestone by securing three consecutive promotions. This achievement took them to the EFL Championship, just two years after winning the National League title. Despite the club’s notable history, owned by Hollywood figures, no Wrexham player was selected for the League One team of the year. The PFA Awards ceremony took place in Manchester, England, on Tuesday. Birmingham City, champions of League One and co-owned by former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, dominated the selection of the team of the year, whose members are chosen by the players of each club in the division.
  • Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, praised for their investment in Wrexham.
  • Wrexham breaks transfer record by signing Welsh striker Broadhead.
Seven Birmingham players were included in the team. The remaining four spots were filled by Lloyd Jones (Charlton Athletic), Richard Kone (Wycombe Wanderers), Kwame Poku (Peterborough United) and Charlie Kelman, a forward for Leyton Orient and the United States U-20 national team, who led the League One goalscoring chart with 21 goals. The Wrexham has begun its campaign in the Championship with two consecutive defeats against Southampton and West Brom. Their next challenge will be against Sheffield Wednesday, who has also suffered two defeats, in a crucial home match on Saturday.
