Arteta: Arsenal’s New Signings Make the Team More Unpredictable

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has highlighted how the team’s new signings during the summer are transforming their game, making it “more unpredictable.” This statement came after the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, where new players Martín Zubimendi and Noni Madueke shone. Arsenal invested more than £260 million on eight signings during the summer, and five of them were starters at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Despite losing their captain, Martin Ødegaard, to a shoulder injury after 18 minutes, Arsenal dominated the match. Zubimendi opened the scoring with a spectacular volley from outside the area. Viktor Gyökeres, signed for £63 million, scored his third goal in four games, while Eberechi Eze made his debut as a starter with an assist.

Cristhian Mosquera replaced William Saliba in defense with a confident performance, while Madueke caused problems for Forest’s defense throughout the match. Zubimendi added a third goal with a header after a cross from Leandro Trossard, securing Arsenal’s victory and leaving behind the 1-0 defeat against Liverpool before the international break.

“The new players who started, all five of them, really impressed. You can feel that new relationships are blossoming to be more unpredictable,” Arteta commented.

Arteta especially praised Madueke and highlighted the novelty of the offensive lineup: “Noni, I think he was also exceptional. We played with an offensive trio that we had never used before. Good exposure for them, in terms of time, it was exactly what they needed because they played many minutes, so we are very happy.” Arteta reflected on the impact of Arsenal’s investment in the summer market:

“If we hadn’t done that, and with the injuries we have, some of them very difficult to control, we would be in a very different place. We knew that was the standard, that is the standard of the other teams in the league, in Europe. They can see that. I am very happy that it gives us options, it gives us the ability to change matches, the ability to have freshness in the team and now we have to make sure that everyone feels connected and important”.
