Toronto FC and Italian forward Federico Bernardeschi have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, the MLS club announced on Tuesday. The Canadian team used one of the two guaranteed contract purchase options that each MLS team has available per season. Bernardeschi, 31 years old, joined Toronto FC from Juventus as a designated player in the middle of the 2022 season.

The Italian striker played 134 matches for Juventus in five years at the club, scoring eight goals and providing 15 assists, earning him 39 caps for the Italian national team, including an appearance in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley, where Italy won the tournament after a penalty shootout against England. Bernardeschi recorded four goals and four assists in 15 MLS matches this season, ending his four-year MLS stint with 25 goals and 12 assists in 88 appearances.
