Luis Suárez in the eye of the hurricane after alleged spitting

Inter Miami striker Luis Suárez is at the center of controversy after the Leagues Cup final match, where his team was defeated 3-0 by the Seattle Sounders. Tension gripped the field at the end of the match, triggering a confrontation between both teams. A video circulating on social media shows Suárez in a heated exchange with a member of the Seattle Sounders staff. In the images, the Uruguayan footballer is seen leaning towards the man and, apparently, spitting in his direction. Inter Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari intervened to separate Suarez from the staff member, and both parties dispersed.

Unfortunately, this could detract from the great performance of the Seattle Sounders. Their players were frustrated, and that led to things happening on the field that shouldn’t happen.

Brian Schmetzer, coach of the Seattle Sounders
Seattle Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer downplayed the incident, emphasizing that what matters is his team’s performance in the match. Schmetzer recounted a moment of dialogue with Messi, seeking to put aside what happened. This is not the first controversial incident in Suárez’s career. During the 2014 World Cup, the forward was involved in an incident where he appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini. According to a Leagues Cup spokesperson, the organizing committee will review the incidents that occurred at the end of the match and take the corresponding measures. A timeframe for the conclusion of the review has not been specified.
