Luke Shaw Reflects on a Tough Season Marked by Injuries
Manchester United footballer Luke Shaw has shared his feelings about a season marked by injuries, admitting that he felt disappointed for not being able to contribute to the team. Shaw, who had limited participation due to physical problems, expressed his frustration at not being available for the club. The left-back was only able to participate in 12 matches across all competitions, while Manchester United faced a challenging season in the Premier League, finishing in a lower position than expected.
The player also mentioned his debt to former coach Erik ten Hag. His last start under Ten Hag’s management was in February 2024. Injuries sidelined him at the start of the 2024-25 season, leading to the coach’s dismissal. Shaw expressed his regret at not having been available to Ten Hag at crucial moments. The footballer hopes his injury problems are a thing of the past. He returned to the team towards the end of last season and was able to start in five of the last eight matches, including the Europa League final. Shaw has also received the backing of his new coach, Ruben Amorim, who called him “world class”. The player feels grateful for the coach’s support and for the opportunity to leave behind the problems of the previous season. Shaw admitted that he felt at his lowest point during his long absence last season. Back with the team on the summer tour of America, he says he feels better, both mentally and physically, and is eager to start the new season. “I feel true happiness now,” he affirmed. “Last season couldn’t have been worse. Now I feel very good, very happy with the people around me on the team and with a very good coach. I couldn’t feel better, to be honest. I am very happy and I am really looking forward to this season. I have great ambitions this season, so I hope to fulfill them.”“I felt like I let a lot of people down at the club and in the team, obviously, because I was always injured,” Shaw said.
