Luke Shaw Backs Ruben Amorim’s Approach at Manchester United

The footballer Luke Shaw has expressed his support for Ruben Amorim’s efforts to transform the culture at Manchester United. Shaw agrees with the Portuguese coach’s decision to sideline those players who do not meet the team’s demands.

Following United’s worst season in over half a century, Amorim is determined to raise standards at Old Trafford. Shaw revealed that the 40-year-old coach has made it clear that any player who does not meet his expectations will face exclusion.

“The mentality is a crucial aspect for him,” Shaw commented. “Ruben demands 100% and accepts nothing less. If someone performs at 85 or 90%, it’s not enough for him. I think, especially this year, if you don’t do things right, you won’t play.”

Shaw highlighted the need for a healthy and positive environment within the team, free from the toxicity that, according to him, has prevailed in recent years.

Amorim, who took office in November, has already begun to implement changes in the United team. Marcus Rashford has been loaned to Barcelona, while players like Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have been excluded from the pre-season tour of the United States. Amorim has also emphasized that the new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were brought to United mainly because of their strong desire to play for the club.

“There are no stragglers in this group anymore,” Shaw stated. “I think you’ve seen what he’s done in the last eight months with different players and things like that, he doesn’t care who the player is. If he’s not following what he wants, then that’s how it should be, and I think rightly so.”

Shaw also highlighted the coach’s demands and the importance of players putting the team before anything else. The player has committed to supporting Amorim in his effort to raise the team’s standards. Amorim is under pressure after United’s fifteenth place in the Premier League and the defeat against Tottenham in the Europa League final. The tour of the United States is presented as an opportunity for both players and coaching staff to prepare for the new season. «I think we, as players, especially the more experienced ones, need to demand more on a day-to-day basis,» Shaw added. «We need to maintain the levels in training, be punctual and make sure no one is late. We fully support the coach and his ideas».
