Jarell Quansah Leaves Liverpool and Joins Bayer Leverkusen
Liverpool have confirmed the permanent transfer of defender Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.
The German team will pay an initial fee of £30 million for the central defender, with the possibility of an additional £5 million in easily achievable add-ons.
Quansah joined Liverpool’s academy at the age of five, making his first-team debut against Newcastle United in August 2023. He enjoyed a successful debut season under Jürgen Klopp in 2023-24, featuring in 33 matches across all competitions.
However, the England youth international, a key member of Lee Carsley’s winning team at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship, struggled with his form last season, starting only four Premier League games under Arne Slot.
Liverpool continues to value Quansah and, therefore, has agreed to a buy-back clause with Bayer Leverkusen for a pre-agreed fee.
Liverpool have been linked with a number of potential replacements for Quansah and are interested in Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi, however, the club will only act if the right target is available.
Liverpool have already spent big this summer, signing Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz, for a record fee of £100 million, and Jeremie Frimpong, as well as Bournemouth’s Hungarian international Milos Kerkez.
