Pulisic, Out Due to Injury with AC Milan After International Commitments
The AC Milan and US national team star player, Christian Pulisic, returns to Italy with a hamstring injury, following his international commitments. Although the American winger still needs to be evaluated by his club, reports suggest he could be out of action for almost a month. This would mean that Pulisic would miss not only Sunday’s match against Fiorentina, but also the Serie A matches against Pisa, Atalanta, Roma and Parma. The friendlies played by the United States could cost Milan dearly. Despite reports, a source indicated that Pulisic’s return flight to Milan was delayed and he was still in the United States, adding that scans have not yet been performed to determine the severity of his injury. Pulisic has been, by far, Milan’s best player this season, with six goals and two assists in seven matches, before missing a penalty in the goalless draw against Juventus before the international break. Pulisic, 27 years old, was affected by a right ankle injury last week and only entered the 1-1 draw against Ecuador on Friday in the 73rd minute. Despite that, and the fact that the matches were only friendlies, he started in the 2-1 victory over Australia on Tuesday, but had to be substituted in the 26th minute due to an apparent hamstring injury. After the match, United States coach Mauricio Pochettino suggested that the change in climate and altitude between the team’s first match in Austin and the match against Australia in Denver may have contributed to Pulisic’s injury. The rossoneri hope to have him back at least for the derby against Inter Milan on November 23, after the next international break. Milan is in third place in Serie A, two points behind AS Roma and the current champion, Napoli.I think it’s something that is a huge risk. I don’t want to say that Christian or if it’s something because of that, but I think it was very hard for the player. We know how to prepare for the match and then play it. We feel very sad about this situation [Pulisic] because I think it’s difficult.
