Premier League 2024/2025 Calendar: Key Dates Ahead
The Premier League will reveal the match schedule for the 2024/2025 season on Wednesday at 9 a.m. BST (4 a.m. ET). The league, which will feature the usual 380 matches next season, has assured that each team will have at least 60 hours of rest between matches during the festive period, with no matches scheduled for Christmas Eve. According to Premier League sources, the scheduling takes almost 18 months. A computer generates a random list of matches which is then thoroughly analyzed considering factors such as travel, security, and potential scheduling conflicts.Thompson, who also plans the Football League calendar, explained the process of creating the calendar. “We start when we know the composition of each division, after the last Football League playoff. We place each club in a pairing grid, which defines the dates they will play at home.” “For each date of the season, the match computer knows which clubs play at home and which away, and then randomly mixes them to determine the matches.” Thompson added: “You can’t please everyone. It’s a compromise for all clubs; nothing can be done to favor any in particular.” In total, there are 2,036 matches in the Premier League and the Football League over a period of nine months, and the ideal solution is to ensure that those matches can be played as scheduled.For me, this starts at the beginning of the year when I receive the Premier League match dates.
