Ange Postecoglou Responds to Criticism with Firmness

Nottingham Forest coach Ange Postecoglou has responded with determination to speculation about his future at the club, following the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League. The coach, who has faced a complicated start since taking over, has not achieved victories in his first seven matches. Rumors suggest he could have decisive conversations with owner Evangelos Marinakis, despite being in charge of the team for only a few weeks. However, Postecoglou was defiant in front of the media at St James’ Park stadium.

“I started in Australia at 32 in semi-professional football and I’m here in the Premier League at 60. Do you think I lack confidence or that I don’t like to fight?”

The coach emphasized his background and experience, highlighting his determination and willingness to face challenges. “I didn’t get here because of my connections. In fact, I’ve looked for fights. Even in the schoolyard. I’ve looked for fights with people I knew were going to beat me. That’s the kind of person I am, so it’s okay,” he added. Postecoglou also downplayed early criticism, indicating that he cannot control evaluations based on a short period of time. “If people want to evaluate me after three and a half weeks, in which I’ve had six or seven games, I can’t do anything about it,” he stated. The Australian coach made it clear that he prefers challenges and is willing to fight for the team. “I love a fight. So it’s a fight, so it’s a struggle, so what? That’s fine. Now, if people outside don’t think I’m the right person, or even internally they don’t believe it, I don’t care,” he concluded.

The Forest, despite their effort, couldn’t avoid the defeat. Newcastle managed to score the first goal in the second half, followed by another goal from the penalty spot.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance and the victory. Howe stated: “[It was] a great victory for us, huge, huge. The players have done very well this week to recover from the match against Arsenal in the way they have and the speed to leave that match behind and refocus on two very important matches.”
