Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has expressed his confidence in Chelsea, envisioning the club as “America’s team” and projecting its growth to become “a billion-dollar franchise.”
Ohanian, who acquired a 10% stake in Chelsea last week for £20 million (approximately $26.52 million), made these statements after witnessing the victory of the team led by Sonia Bompastor in the FA Cup final at Wembley, where Chelsea defeated Manchester United 3-0.
Chelsea is very unique. These are the queens of world football and they have the trophy cabinet to prove it. This will be a billion-dollar franchise someday and I hope my dollars, my pounds, can contribute to that and, especially at home, in America, this will be America’s team.

Ohanian, 42, already has experience in women’s soccer. He was the majority shareholder of Angel City FC, a team he helped found in 2020 and which was later sold for $250 million in 2024.
The FA Cup victory meant that Sonia Bompastor’s team finished the domestic season undefeated, having also won the League Cup final against Manchester City and been crowned Women’s Super League champions for the sixth consecutive time.
However, Chelsea did not achieve success in the Champions League, being defeated by Barcelona in the semi-finals with an aggregate score of 8-2.
