Nice Players Suffer Assault by Fans After Defeat

Nice forwards Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga have been sidelined from the team after allegedly being assaulted by their own fans on Sunday night. This occurred upon their return from a 3-1 defeat against Lorient, according to sources close to the team. Approximately 400 ultras waited for the players at the club’s training ground in a tense atmosphere after the match. Two supporters boarded the team bus to express their anger before violence erupted as the players disembarked. Moffi has been put on sick leave for a week and Boga for five days. Both footballers were hit, spat on, kicked, and insulted by the ultras, according to eyewitnesses on Boulevard Jean-Luciano, where the team bus dropped off the players and staff after their return from the airport after the match against Lorient. The two players went to the local police on Monday to file charges against the alleged aggressors. The police did not comment on the matter. The defeat in Brittany was Nice’s sixth consecutive in all competitions. Moffi and Boga were the most attacked, with the fans accusing them of having a bad attitude in recent weeks. Moffi was hit, kicked, and had his hair pulled, needing the help of his goalkeeper Yéhvann Diouf to escape the crowd and safely enter the club’s facilities. The sporting director Florian Maurice had to be protected by security. However, coach Franck Haise was acclaimed, and the ultras told him they still supported him. The current captain, Melvin Bard, and local midfielder Sofiane Diop did not suffer any abuse from the ultras. The rest of the team finally managed to enter the team’s building, with many players shocked and traumatized, blaming the club for the lack of security.

“How can they not protect us anymore? It was incredible and terrifying,” said a Nice player.
