Napoli in talks with Man United for Højlund: Lukaku replacement in sight

2 Min Read

Napoli, the current Serie A champion, is in negotiations with Manchester United to secure the arrival of Rasmus Højlund. The conversations are focused on a possible agreement that could benefit both clubs. The Italian club is looking for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who will be out of action for up to four months due to a thigh injury. Given this situation, Napoli has set its sights on Højlund, who could be available after Benjamin Sesko’s arrival at Manchester United.

Napoli would be negotiating an initial loan for the 22-year-old player, with an option or obligation to buy him outright next summer. Manchester United values the Danish international, who has three years remaining on his contract, at around 40 million pounds sterling (approximately 53.83 million dollars). Højlund was not included in the squad for Manchester United’s first two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Fulham. In addition, he was a substitute in the last summer friendly against Fiorentina, but did not get to play. Højlund arrived at Manchester United in 2023 for an initial fee of £64 million. In his first season, he scored 10 league goals, but struggled last season, scoring only four Premier League goals in 32 appearances. AC Milan, Juventus, Fulham and Celtic have also shown interest in Højlund this summer. During Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States, Højlund expressed his desire to stay at the club this summer, but his chances of playing seem limited after the arrival of Sesko. The player is interested in playing as much as possible ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
