Seattle Reign FC Signs Mia Fishel to a Historic Contract
The Seattle Reign FC has finalized the incorporation of American forward Mia Fishel, coming from Chelsea, with a contract that extends until 2029.
The agreement, which extends through the 2029 NWSL season, is valued at $2.5 million, making it the most valuable cumulative contract in league history.
Previously, the highest contract belonged to Mallory Swanson, of the Chicago Stars, with a five-year agreement signed in early 2024, valued at around 2 million dollars.
Fishel arrived at Chelsea in 2023 from Tigres, where she stood out as the league’s top scorer.
The 24-year-old player, originally from San Diego, has three appearances with the United States women’s national team and scored her only international goal to date in her second match with the team, in 2023.
Fishel’s participation with the USWNT has been limited due to an ACL injury suffered during training prior to the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup. Recently, she returned to the field with Chelsea and participated in the recent international break with the United States U-23 national team in two matches against the Germany U-23 national team.
Fishel’s arrival in the NWSL comes more than three years after she decided not to join the league after her college career. She was selected fifth overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft by Orlando Pride after leaving UCLA a year earlier, but chose not to sign with Orlando, opting instead to go to Tigres.
