Anthony Martial Strengthens Monterrey: The French Forward Arrives in Liga MX
French forward Anthony Martial, with a past at Manchester United, joins the ranks of Club de Fútbol Monterrey, as confirmed by the Mexican team this Friday. The transfer is finalized after his time at AEK Athens.
Martial, 29 years old, has signed a contract that binds him to the club until 2027, with the option to extend it for an additional year. In this way, he becomes the first French player in the history of Monterrey.
The French international had an outstanding career at Manchester United, where he played for nine seasons. His arrival at the English team in 2015, from AS Monaco, was finalized for an initial sum of 36 million pounds sterling (48.8 million dollars), becoming the most expensive signing for a teenager at that time.Despite debuting with a goal against Liverpool and winning the Golden Boy award in 2015 as Europe’s best young player, Martial failed to maintain the same consistency. During his time at Manchester United, he scored 90 goals in 317 matches, marked by frequent injuries and a loan to Sevilla in 2022.
Last summer, Martial left Old Trafford to join AEK Athens, where he scored nine goals in 24 matches.
Now, he joins a Monterrey that currently leads the Apertura standings of the Liga MX, accumulating 18 points in seven matchdays.
