María Sánchez Returns to Tigres: A Stellar Signing for the Liga MX Femenil

The talented winger for the San Diego Wave and Mexican national team player, María Sánchez, has a closed deal to join Tigres of the Liga MX Femenil. Sources close to the negotiation confirm that the transfer is a done deal.

The official announcement is expected next week. The player, with dual nationality, will sign a four-year contract and returns to Tigres, the team she represented in 2021.

It is anticipated that Sunday’s match between the Wave and the Washington Spirit will be Sánchez’s last with the NWSL club.

Sánchez, currently under contract with the Wave, a team that will receive financial compensation for the transfer, signed with the NWSL club in 2024 with an agreement that extended until 2026, with an option for 2027.

The 29-year-old player, who arrived as a key figure for the Wave in 2024, has been a rotation option in recent weeks.

The arrival of Sánchez represents an important bet by Tigres to reinforce their squad coming from the NWSL, following the incorporation of Mexican international forward Diana Ordóñez at the end of May.
