Manchester City Considers Strengthening Goalkeeping and Evaluates Options in the Transfer Market

Manchester City is evaluating the possibility of reinforcing its goalkeeping position in the summer transfer market. According to sources close to the club, the “Citizens” could consider James Trafford, Burnley’s goalkeeper, as a viable option. This decision will depend on the negotiations that take place, especially given the rumors about a possible departure of Ederson. It is speculated that Galatasaray is preparing an offer for the Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who has one more year of contract with City. Although Ederson expressed his desire to stay at the club during the FIFA Club World Cup, City’s management is holding internal talks about the possibility of bringing Trafford back.

The City included a buy-back clause in the agreement that took the English goalkeeper to Burnley in 2023. Newcastle has also been linked with a possible signing of the 22-year-old player. Stefan Ortega, Ederson’s substitute, has been less specific about his plans for next season. The German goalkeeper, who also has a year left on his contract, has been linked with a possible transfer to the Bundesliga. The City’s third-choice goalkeeper, Marcus Bettinelli, signed a one-year contract from Chelsea before the Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, sources have reported that City does not plan to make an offer for Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento.

Pep Guardiola is open to adding a right-back to his squad following Kyle Walker’s departure. Walker’s departure leaves City without a recognized right-back in the squad, although Rico Lewis, Matheus Nunes and Manuel Akanji can cover that position. City made most of its signings before the Club World Cup, incorporating Rayan Aït-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Bettinelli. Now, the club is focusing on securing the departures of players considered surplus, including Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips.
