Luis Enrique Touched by PSG Fans’ Tribute to His Daughter Xana
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique expressed his gratitude to the club’s supporters for the emotional tribute to his late daughter Xana, who passed away at the age of nine due to bone cancer. The tribute took place after the French team’s victory, which saw them crowned Champions League champions with a resounding 5-0 victory against Inter Milan.
During the celebration in Munich, Germany, Enrique wore a black t-shirt in honor of Xana. PSG fans displayed an impressive tifo showing Xana planting a PSG blue and red flag in the center circle next to her father.
The image recalled a photograph of Enrique and Xana, then five years old, planting a Barcelona flag on the grass of the Olympiastadion in Berlin, after the Spanish team won the Champions League in 2015 against Juventus.
Enrique commented in a post-match press conference: “I don’t need to win a match or the Champions League to think about my daughter. I think about her every day. She is with our family and I feel her presence even when we are losing.” The coach added: “It’s about thinking about what we had together, thinking about the positive in the negative for me and my family. Xana is always with us. We always think of her, we love her. We carry her forever in our hearts. I think she would be running among us here. It’s a wonderful and pleasant thought to share with family and friends. I was delighted with the banner, but I don’t need a trophy to think of my daughter.”It was very emotional. It was beautiful to think that the fans thought of me and my family.
