Police Investigation: Diogo Jota and the Fatal Accident
The Spanish Civil Guard has revealed preliminary details about the tragic car accident involving Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva. According to initial investigations, it is suspected that Jota was driving at a speed exceeding the permitted limit at the time of the accident.
The accident, which took place last week, claimed the lives of both brothers. Authorities continue to investigate the exact causes of the incident, which occurred on a remote road.
The Civil Guard reported on Tuesday that, although the investigation is still ongoing, the first evidence suggests that Jota may have been exceeding the speed limits when the Lamborghini, the vehicle they were traveling in, veered off the road after a tire burst.
Initially, the police had not confirmed who was driving the vehicle. However, in Tuesday’s update, it was indicated that everything points to Jota being at the wheel.
The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, and the vehicle caught fire after leaving the road. Portuguese media reported that Jota was heading to Santander, Spain, to take a ferry to England, where he would rejoin Liverpool after being advised not to fly after a recent lung procedure.
The funeral of Diogo Jota and André Silva was held in Portugal on Saturday.
