Liverpool Teammates Bid Farewell to Diogo Jota in Portugal

Diogo Jota’s Liverpool teammates will attend the funeral of the Portuguese player and his brother André Silva, which will be held on Saturday in Portugal. Diogo Jota and his brother lost their lives in a car accident in northern Spain on Wednesday night. They were heading to the port city of Santander to catch a ferry to England, before Jota’s return to training with the Premier League team. The brothers’ funeral will take place on Saturday at the Matriz church in Gondomar, 33 kilometers from Porto, after a ceremony in which family and friends gathered on Friday. Sources indicate that several members of the Liverpool squad will travel to Portugal to attend the funeral on Saturday morning. Jota and his parents have houses in Gondomar, where the footballer began his career. Gondomar is a working-class city near Porto, where Jota was born.
Several Liverpool players, including Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, have expressed their condolences for the loss of the former Wolves striker. Liverpool manager Arne Slot and the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have also issued public tributes to the player. Liverpool’s return to pre-season training, scheduled for Monday, has been postponed as a mark of respect to Diogo Jota.
